Kindness Week 2021

Every year at OWIS, Kindness Week gives our teachers the opportunity to focus on nurturing this core value in our students. Students work together on activities that help them to recognise the need to be kind to the environment, people they know, and the larger community they live in.

As a school that is committed to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), this year, our learners chose an SDG and made a pledge and an action plan to help accomplish it in their own way. They created mini displays on this as well.

The OWIS Parent Committee, a dedicated and thoughtful group of parent representatives, sponsored delicious breakfast bento boxes for all the staff of the school, and everyone appreciated (and savoured) their kind gesture.

Furthermore, our Grade 11 IB Diploma learners initiated Project Eat Better, a food drive for Willing Hearts, an organisation that provides sustenance to the needy in Singapore. With food donations, particularly cooking oil, pouring in from our generous school community, the collection boxes were overflowing in no time at all. The Grade 11 students were able to fulfill their promise to Willing Hearts.

At OWIS Suntec, students engaged in activities such as painting kindness rocks, creating origami kindness hearts and taking time to reflect on and record their acts of kindness throughout the week. They also participated in a food drive with the proceeds going to ItsRainingRaincoats, a charity that works with migrant workers in Singapore. The week culminated with the Kindness Council creating a “Wall of Kindness” with the origami of all of the students.

Our thanks to the Staff Kindness Committee, led by Katherine Adler and Angeline Swee, at OWIS Nanyang and to the Kindness Council at OWIS Suntec for a successful and heartwarming Kindness Week. Our gratitude also goes out to all our OWIS families for their generosity for the food donation drive.
