At One World International School, we provide an arts programme that helps expand the elements of visual, creative and performing arts to give your child an appreciation of the benefits of artistic expression. Both in the classroom and through extracurricular activities, we teach students about different art forms and encourage them to cultivate their interests and talents through visual arts and drama.
During classes and extracurricular activities, students have the opportunity to engage in various art disciplines, both visual arts and performance arts.
By engaging in our exciting school art curriculum, students acquire the skills and knowledge to speak intelligently about the design, style and techniques on any piece of art they encounter. While having fun exploring their creative side, children are learning practical skills, such as teamwork, perseverance and collaboration. Co-curricular activities in the arts allow students to build on what they are learning in class, applying their skills in a relaxed environment.
As an international school, we celebrate diversity in a multicultural environment. At OWIS, we focus on the many ways art affects our world, beginning with how art shaped ancient civilisations. Learning about different artists and artistic movements throughout history teaches children the relationship between art and culture. This promotes students' understanding of different cultures, including their own. International school visual arts serve as a way for students to enhance their cultural awareness, an important part of preparing to become global citizens and leaders.
We provide a variety of ways to integrate art into our interdisciplinary programme. Throughout the year, students participate in art weeks and annual art exhibitions, which showcase both visual and performance art. These events allow students to talk about their creations with other students, teachers, parents and the local community. Students gain new insight and perspective when they experience and examine the artwork of their peers and receive other perspectives on what they have created.
Art appreciation encourages students to think about how art is a part of their world, and how they can use different art forms to express themselves in new and creative ways.
We explore the expressive components of various pieces of art and look at how they are used. These components include line, texture, colour, shape, space and value. Analysing a variety of artworks teaches students how these elements combine to affect each piece.
Whether they're looking at paintings, sculptures or sketches, students learn how to read art, and how to put into words what they interpret.
Our school art curriculum centres around observation, discussion, experimentation and research. As they learn about different art forms, they have the opportunity to try their hands at various techniques, using a variety of materials.

Suhailin is a Singaporean. She started her career as a 3D Artist/Designer specialising in architecture/interior design. However, her growth mindset made her want to do something different in the long run, which was more challenging. So she took a leap of faith and quit her job as a designer to become an educator.
She has been teaching for more than 12 years now and has gained strong experience through her work in different educational institutions, which includes a secondary school and a SPED school.
Suhailin believes that every student learns at their own pace, in their own unique way. She implements her idea of “I Do, We Do, You Do” in classroom teaching. As someone who is caring, understanding and positive, she hopes to nurture the OWIS philosophy of kindness by encouraging students to be thoughtful of others and show empathy.
In her free time, Suhailin enjoys spending quality time with her family and heading out for shopping, dining, or to explore a theme park with them.
