One World International School is a candidate school for authorisation in March 2012 by the International Baccalaureate Organisation to offer the Primary Years Programme (IB PYP)

The IB PYP is a world programme, providing a solid basis for secondary education for future international citizens in the information age of the 21st century.

The programme places emphasis on the basics of good primary education and is student centred, with learning taking place when it is connected, relevant, meaningful, fun, hands on and investigative. Whilst we do retain some discrete subject teaching, much learning is transdisciplinary through planned Units of Inquiry across the subject areas.

Each Unit of Inquiry

  • Is a significant, relevant and challenging learning experience
  • Builds on the prior knowledge of the students
  • Involves students in a range of learning activities
  • Requires students to engage in positive action
  • Integrates diverse subject areas whenever meaningful and appropriate

Through the Units of Inquiry, the classroom becomes a centre of structured inquiry through which students acquire skills and build new knowledge.

These units of inquiry become our school’s Program of Inquiry (POI).

Social, personal development and relationships are important with our goal being to support the development of well rounded articulate confident and enthusiastic learners. We have a broad and balance approach to learning where students are encouraged to be Inquirers, Knowledgeable, Thinkers, Communicators, Principled, Open Minded, Caring, Risk-takers, Balanced and Reflective.

From Grade 6, into the Middle school, the programme is based on a modified UK Curriculum working towards study for the International General Certificate of Secondary Education( IGSCE)  internationally recognised qualifications for entry into the last two years of higher secondary education. Whilst learning is divided into subject areas, underlying themes enable the students to make connections and understand the transdisciplinary nature of knowledge.
