HELEN CURTIS ~ Nursery

Helen is from the UK. Helen is an Early Years Educator. She specialises in teaching the younger children.

Helen has NVQ’s from the UK in Early Years Care and Education.Helen has worked as a nanny in the UK with children from birth to 11 years. She was a nursery nurse in schools and nurseries and has worked with special needs children.

   

GREG PETERS ~ Early Childhood –1

Greg is from Queensland Australia. He has a diploma in Teaching Primary and Pre-School and a diploma of Teaching and a Bachelor of Education from the Brisbane College of Advanced Education.

Before coming to Singapore he was working as a senior educator at Caboolture Early Years Centre and before that been Teacher in Charge at Marochydore Pre-School for 10 years. He has 30 years of teaching experience having taught in Queensland as a Teacher in Charge of Pre-School at various schools and has been accountable for up to 2 Pre-school Units. He has been a lecturer in Early Childhood, has been involved in working with and supervising a range of events and groups to develop building community, curriculum planning and teaching.

   

QIU TING ONG ~ Early Childhood –2A

Qiu is from Singapore. She has a Bachelor’s Degree in Early Childhood Education from Macquarie University in Australia.

Qiu spent 5 years in Australia before returning to Singapore, teaching in Pre-Schools. Qiu has also dedicated some of her family time in order to learn the business. Qiu’s experiences in both Australia and Singapore have contributed to her teaching style. She is aware of different cultures and their diversities. Qiu describes achieving her goals through a mix of dynamic power and gentle compassion.

   

NATASHA BUCKLEY ~ Early Childhood –2B

Natasha is from the UK, although she was born in New Zealand and completed her teacher training there before returning to the UK to teach for 8 years.

She has a Graduate Diploma in Teaching and Learning and a Bachelor of Science. Natasha has worked with students within different cultures and curricula’s. Natasha has taught various age groups, most recently for 2 years at Tanglin School in Singapore.

   

JAMIE ATKINSON ~ Preparatory –A

Jamie is from Australia. She has a Bachelor of Primary Education from Griffith University Gold Coast, Australia completed in 2003 and in 2009 a Master of Education
at University of Southern Queensland.

She has worked as a Year 1, Year 5 and Year 4 teacher Upper Coomera Stage College in Australia. Previous to this she was in England as a Year 2 and 3/4 primary school teacher in London for a year, and before that in Australia as a year 1 primary teacher.

   

CANDICE BURTON ~ Preparatory –B

Candice is from Memphis, Tennessee in the United States of America. She has a Bachelor of Arts Degree, her artistic mediums include Sculpture, Conte, Graphic Design, Collage, Jewellery making and Wire Weaving.

She taught English and Art in Memphis before coming to Singapore to teach Early Years in 2010. Candice has overseen stage design and the decorations of many school functions.

During 2007-2010, she was a Reading Intervention Specialist and has also taught summer programmes for the YMCA. Candice has also assisted with creating gallery ready art for exhibitions.

   

MICHELLE BAYROSS ~ Grade 1

Michelle is from Canada.She has a Bachelor of Science in Business Management from the University of Phoenix Vancouver, Canada and this year gained her post-diploma in primary education at La Trobe University of Melbourne Victoria.
   

JAYNE MIZUCHUCHI ~ Grade 2

Jayne is from the UK. She has a BA Joint Honours in French and German Language and Literature from the University of Leicester in the UK and Masters in Teaching Primary from Charles Sturt University, Australia. She is also qualified to teach teachers how to support EAL learners in the mainstream classroom. Jayne is planning to further her education with a Masters in International Education.

Prior to joining OWIS one year ago, Jayne taught English in Japan for more than ten years. Jayne carried out her teaching practice in Yokohama International School in Japan where she learnt about the PYP. Jayne has organised a lot of outdoor camps for children and has training as a Duke of Edinburgh Award Supervisor. She was also an International Award Leader at Yokohama International School.

   

GARY LAKE ~ Grade 3

Gary is from Australia. He graduated first with a Bachelor’s of Business degree and later a Bachelor of Education degree from Queensland University of Technology in 2003.

Before coming to OWIS, Gary was a Year 6 teacher and upper primary co-ordinator for 3 years and a Grade 4 teacher for 1 year at Utahloy International School, Guangzhou.
He has previous experience as an ESL teacher in China and a primary teacher in Queensland.

Gary has 4 years of in-service training for the PYP programme. He has experience in ESL, been involved in the development of one -to -one laptop programme in school, co-ordinated camps such as at The Prem Centre Thailand. His other skills include use of Apple Pro and smart interactive boards. He is a level 1 Rugby Coach and he is able to offer a range of extra-curricular activities to include basketball, art/craft, soccer, tennis.

   

HELEN PETERS ~ Grade 4

Helen is from Queensland Australia. She has a Diploma in Teaching Primary and Pre-School, and more recently a Graduate Diploma in Education (Teacher Librarianship) from Queensland University of Technology.

Helen has worked in curriculum development with the National Curriculum ( Aus) and Essential Learning as well as Assessment and Reporting Framework and Gifted and Talented programs -also the ‘New Basics Philosophy’ which aligns closely with IB. She has been a teacher, teacher librarian and been in management positions.

   

PAUL REARDON ~Grade 5

Paul is from Darwin, Australia.

He has taught at OWIS for the last 3 years. Paul attended the University of New England graduating with a B. Arts and Graduate diploma in Education.

He taught for 6 years in various high schools focusing on geography, social studies and science. He then spent a year teaching adult English in Cambodia. He has also taught upper primary for 6 years before moving into Middle School where he was a mathematics and science teacher.

   

TRACEY NORRISH ~ Middle School (English/Drama/PHSE/Art)

Tracey is from the UK. She graduated in 1985 with a Bachelor of Education – Drama, English, Dance and Education.

Tracey has been teaching in Singapore since 1998, prior to that she taught in the UK. She has taught students of varying ages and has been Head of Drama as well as English Teacher and the Student Welfare Coordinator. Tracey has organised extracurricular activities, school camps, graduations, concerts, assemblies and student reward systems.

In the past she has assisted with curriculum development within the English, ESOL and Drama departments. Tracey has devised and taken part in various workshops including Drama as part of the whole school curriculum, pastoral care issues and teaching children with special needs. She has also done voluntary work at the Genesis School for Special Education in Singapore.

   

DUNCAN SHIRLEY ~ Middle School (Maths/Science/Geography)

Duncan has dual nationality, Australian/British. He has a Graduate Diploma of Education (Secondary Science), a Bachelor of Science (Hons), a Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science (Combined Degree) (BA major in Environmental Studies, BSc major in Zoology).

Duncan has taught in Australia and Zambia and done research in South Africa, working for the Freeme Wildlife Rehab Centre in Johannesburg. Duncan has taught Biology and Sciences in the Secondary level and has been course coordinator of Years 9 – 11. He has also taught English to adults and children from a variety of countries, from beginner level through to capable speakers.

   

ROSALINA CHAVEZ ~ Music

Lina is from the Philippines. Lina graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education, major in Music in 1988. She has also gained other citations and awards.

Lina has 22 years teaching experience in public, private and international schools across Asia. She has taught in the Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam. She brings expertise in organizing concerts, teaching and playing various instruments, such as the recorder, guitar, keyboard, piano and bamboo instruments called ‘angklung’. She has lots of experience in organising concerts, musicals, assemblies, recitals and gained awards as Best Demonstration and Outstanding Teacher in the Philippines.

   

THOMAS HORWAT ~ Physical Education

Tom is from Maryland, United States of America. He graduated from the University of New Mexico in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science in Physical Education K-12. He continued studying and in 2002 earned an endorsement in Elementary Education K – 8.

Tom has taught in schools in the U.S.A, Guatemala, Japan and Thailand. He has run soccer and basketball clubs, coached a X-Country Running Club and has taught the PYP and MYP in Physical Education.He has attended a number of workshops including P.E. in the PYP, CPR and Standard First Aid, English as an additional language as well as Yogic Science.

   

CINDY CHEN ~ Mandarin

Cindy is from China. Cindy has been teaching Mandarin as foreign language for around 7 years, both elementary and secondary students, from beginner level to advanced level, most recently at the German European School Singapore. She has taught in Sunday schools in the past. Cindy graduated in 1999 with a Bachelor Degree.

Cindy enjoys the challenges that a new programme brings and is very eager to teach younger children in One World teaching community.

   

CHRISTINA WONG ~ Mandarin

Christina is from Singapore. Christina completed her Diploma of Early Childhood Care & Education in 2010.

Christina is looking forward to working as the Mandarin Teacher for EC1 – Grade 1 children.Christina has experience in the classroom as a Teacher Assistant at the Australian School in Singapore and United World College SEA Singapore. She has many years experience in providing Mandarin coaching.

ALYSON REES ~ Deputy Head / PYP Coordinator

Alyson is from the UK. Alyson graduated from University of Southampton with a BSc (Hons) in Environmental Science.

After working with children as a residential social worker, she qualified as a teacher, gaining a post-graduate certificate of Education from the University of Leicester. She taught in the UK in both in two small village schools and two large city schools. During this time she held posts as special needs coordinator and science coordinator.

Alyson then spent 9 years at the International School of Berne, Switzerland where she was PYP Co-ordinator. Alyson came to Singapore in August 2010 to take up the post of OWIS Deputy Head/PYP coordinator.

ELAINE GODDARD-TAME ~ Head of School

Elaine is from UK. Elaine graduated from University of Leicester with a BA (Hons) in Psychology, followed by a post Graduate Certificate of Education and Master of Education at University of Birmingham. She started as a Middle School teacher in UK then took up the position as Reading Consultant in charge of the Remedial Clinic at St. Andrew’s School, Nassau Bahamas. After that she returned to the UK as a Deputy Head then Head of School.

She left the UK to become Principal of Port Moresby International School (Primary Section). After that she was Principal of Hong Lok Yuen International School in Hong Kong for 12 years. During the last few years she was involved in taking the school into the middle years, opening up a new secondary school, International College Hong Kong.

Elaine has served on the Council of International Schools Board for 6 years and the ACAMIS – Association of China and Mongolia School Board. She has been a team member and Chair of a number of CIS accreditation team visits to different international schools in Asia.
